About the Artist:

In a world that commodifies nature, Conroy shows us the individuality of every living thing. Conroy disseminates his message through art: “We must preserve and protect the richness of our world—replete as it is with unique, particular things.”After drawing and laser-cutting images of the same subject viewed from different perspectives, the multimedia sheets are layered atop one another, requiring the viewer to closely examine each page's minute differences.

Blake M Conroy resides in Aberdeen, Maryland. Conroy graduated magna cum laude with a BFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art. Conroy is a recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. Additionally, Conroy was an artist in residence at Glo’Art in Belgium, 2018. Conroy is represented by the Carla Massoni Gallery in Chestertown Md. Selected shows include: Solo shows at Hardesty Arts Center in Tulsa Ok, Bloomsbury University, Bloomsbug Pa, Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati Oh. He has also shown at McNeese State University, Lake Charles, La., Masur Museum, Monroe, La (People's Choice Award), UH Hilo Art Department,Hilo, Hi., and The Bennington Center For the Arts, Bennington, Vt.

MAP's 40th Anniversary & Giving Campaign

Maryland Art Place (MAP)  is pleased to launch our 40th Giving Campaign in celebration of our 40th Anniversary. MAP incorporated on January 30th, 1981 to “educate the general public in the area of contemporary visual art being produced by Maryland artists through exhibitions and performances, public relations and advertising, serving as an information center for Maryland artists and coordinating activities of other art-oriented institutions and organizations in Maryland.” As MAP continues this work, we can say without a doubt that as our cultural ecosystem has expanded in the Baltimore region to national and international heights, we remain a relevant and important contributor to the success of Maryland artists.

To celebrate this momentous anniversary, MAP has launched a 40th giving campaign: MAP40.givesmart.com. Donations come with fun perks à la 1981!

  • $30 donations and over get you a free Out of Order preview ticket, and a unique 40th Anniversary risograph print + a MAP membership
  • $100 donations and over get you all of the above + our 40th Anniversary Tee (in chocolate and yellow)

Despite - or perhaps because of - the current climate, we continue to believe that the arts are essential to our health and well-being, and are dedicated to finding new ways to bring our services to the public that are representative of the artistic community as a whole. Please consider donating today. No amount is too small!

As a donor, your support helps us to:

  • Waive submissions fees to participate in MAP events such as Out of Order and UNDER $500
  •  Present thoughtful contemporary art exhibitions throughout the year made free to the public
  • Incubate and provide fiscal agency to mission compatible businesses
  • Offer affordable rent to creative businesses and artists
  • Maintain our building and gallery located in downtown Baltimore City

Window Program

Join Maryland Art Place is celebrating the Maryland State Artist Directory. Over the past two years, MAP has worked with Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) to develop its new website. The State Artist Registry was converted into an Arts Directory and expanded to include Arts and Entertainment Districts, Arts Organizations, MSAC Roster Artists, in addition to Maryland Artists. The Maryland Arts Directory is a free online platform that showcases the high-caliber, diverse and relevant work of Maryland’s artists and arts organizations.

Utilizing rear-screen projection to fill the entire front window of MAP, we aim to showcase the diverse talent of Maryland artists. Conceived at a time when both artists and arts venues are feeling the loss and pressure of being unable to function as gathering places for social and creative activity, this new mode of programming enables audiences to see and enjoy the work of artists while remaining safe.

Please join us every Thursday and Friday evening in April beginning Friday, April 9 - April 30th at 7 pm. You can view the projection outside of MAP’s building located at 218 West Saratoga St. Baltimore, MD 21201. Artist’s work will be on loop throughout the night to promote the new MSAC Arts Directory. To create a Directory Profile please visit: www.msac.org.
