BLACK SOX SCULPTURE PROJECT

BLACK SOX SCULPTURE PROJECT

Project Introduction + Artist Information Session

Wednesday, November 12th, 2025 | 6 - 8pm

APPLICATION LINK

FULL RFP

On behalf of Parks & People and South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), Maryland Art Place (MAP) is offering an exciting opportunity to Baltimore regional artists (MD, DC, PA, DE, VA) working in large-scale sculpture to create artworks of historical Baltimore Black Sox baseball players. The sculptures will be placed within a larger $30 million public park on the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in the Westport neighborhood.

Join us at MAP Wednesday, November 12th from 6 - 8pm to meet BSSP partners, Assedo Consulting and Field Operations. Community Engagement is an important part of this project. Assedo Consulting will share details about this exciting project as well as discuss the importance of Black Sox community and the families who carry their legacies forward. Field Operations will provide an overview of the Westport Waterfront Park and Memorial location, followed by an overview of the RFP and a Q&A. RSVP here.

Figurative Work:  The Baltimore Black Sox Sculpture Project (BSSP) emphasizes the need for lifelike, figurative sculptures that authentically represent Black individuals in public art—addressing a historic imbalance where such representation has been largely reserved for white figures in the U.S.

WHO IS QUALIFIED TO APPLY? Artist actively working in Maryland, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania and Delaware with experience in producing large-scale, public art sculptures.
