Maryland Art Place (MAP) is excited to announce ARTificial, an exhibition in critical discourse with the utilization, implementation and innovation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in art making. ARTificial aims to explore the varied ways in which artists engage with AI and how it has shaped the arts since its inception. As access to AI tools increase - our engagement with AI informs how we interface with the environment, our communities, and our work. All artworks exhibited do not necessarily utilize AI - but challenge our perception of media, technology and digitization.  Exhibiting artists critique, engage, reimagine and challenge AI as [simultaneously] a tool and collaborator - AI is a system shaped by human decisions, datasets and cultural assumptions - artists in dialogue with AI are unavoidably considering concepts surrounding ethics, authorship, bias and posthumanist sentiments. Collectively, the exhibition invites sustained reflection on how algorithmic technologies reshape aesthetic production and cultural meaning.

ARTificial is on view Thursday, January 22 - Mar 14, 2026. Please join us on Thursday, March 12 for an artist panel discussion moderated by Caitlin Gill and the ORB, by Chris Combs + screening by Carrie Fucile and Brenton Lim MAP’s basement Cabaret and Bar. Doors are at 6 PM and performance begins at 7:30 PM.

Featured Artists: Mollye Bendell, Evan Boggess, Chris Combs, Stephanie Dinkins, Carrie Fucile, Terence Hannum, Artemis Herber, Dan Ortiz Leizman, Brenton Lim, Timothy Nohe, Elizabeth Withstandley, and Tara Youngborg.

Roo Taylor | Hotel Indigo

On View:   April 17 - July 17, 2026

Reception: Wednesday, April 22 | 5 PM to 7 PM

Hotel Indigo | 24 West Franklin Street | Free & Open to the Public

Maryland Art Place, in partnership with Hotel Indigo Baltimore, is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Maryland-based artist, Roo Taylor. The exhibition is on view at Hotel Indigo, located at 24 West Franklin St. from April 17 - July 17. A public reception will take place on Wednesday,  April 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

About the Artist

Roo Taylor (b. 2003) is a Baltimore-based artist originally from Denver, Colorado. She earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is currently a resident artist at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Working primarily with high-flow acrylic paint and acrylic ink, Taylor uses transparency and layered color to create abstract landscapes. Her work explores the interplay between the natural world and human relationships, exploring the emotional and atmospheric depth through fluid, natural spaces. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries across Baltimore, Denver and New York, as well as internationally at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan.

Using light and color as metaphors for energy, Roo Taylor’s work traces the through lines between the natural world and human connection. Rooted in a deep reverence for transparency and hue, each piece is meant to reflect on the connection between feeling and form. Taylor invites viewers to experience emotional resonance as something inherently natural, alive, layered, and luminous.

Please join us on Wednesday,  April 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM  for a champagne reception at Hotel Indigo located at 24 West Franklin St.
