Programs Overview

Maryland Art Place (MAP) has been an anchor for contemporary arts in Maryland since 1981. Since its inception, MAP has effectively inspired, supported and encouraged artists in this region by offering exhibition opportunities, workshop and mentorship programs.

MAP creates a dynamic environment for artists to engage with the public, and each other, by nurturing and promoting new talents.

MAP offers a challenging schedule of innovative and diverse contemporary art experiences throughout the year. This includes the presentation of 6-8 annual exhibitions with complimentary programming including: gallery talks, performances and professional development workshops.

8/7: Jennifer McBrien Artist Talk

The exhibition is on view at Hotel Indigo, located at 24 West Franklin St. from June 11 - August 29, 2025. 11/12: Black Sox Sculpture Project Artist Info Session
On behalf of Parks & People and South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), Maryland Art Place (MAP) is offering an exciting opportunity to Baltimore regional artists (MD, DC, PA, DE, VA) working in large-scale sculpture to create artworks of historical Baltimore Black Sox baseball players. Join us at MAP Wednesday, November 12th from 6 - 8pm to meet BSSP partners, Assedo Consulting and Field Operations. Community Engagement is an important part of this project. Assedo Consulting will share details about this exciting project as well as discuss the importance of Black Sox community and the families who carry their legacies forward. Field Operations will provide an overview of the Westport Waterfront Park and Memorial location, followed by an overview of the RFP and a Q&A.

10/30: Merkin Dream Fashion Show

Merkin Dream Fashion Show

Maryland Art Place (MAP) in collaboration with Baltimore-based fashion designer Kenn Hall is proud to present Merkin Dream III, a runway show. The first Merkin Dream show was held during the 100th Anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement during the Covid pandemic.The third iteration of Merkin Dream Fashion show will continue to expand on themes such as women’s rights, sex work, body image and dysphoria.

Volume 10: Dismantled explores queer identity and community as an exercise of celebration by bringing together artists from the Bureau of Queer Art and Maryland. Volume 10: Dismantled will serve as the backdrop to the third biennial Merkin Dream Fashion ShowMerkin Dream III  will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 7 PM to 10 PM.

On behalf of Parks & People and South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), Maryland Art Place (MAP) is offering an exciting opportunity to Baltimore regional artists (MD, DC, PA, DE, VA) working in large-scale sculpture to create artworks of historical Baltimore Black Sox baseball players. The sculptures will be placed within a larger $30 million public park on the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in the Westport neighborhood.

The exhibition is on view at Hotel Indigo, located at 24 West Franklin St. from March 4 - May 30, 2025.  A public reception will take place Thursday, March 27 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Maryland Art Place (MAP) is excited to announce Out of Order (OOO),  MAP’s  Annual Spring Benefit Exhibition & Silent Auction, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 6 o'clock in the evening. This year marks the 28th year of OOO. The auction will be both a virtual and physical exhibition and will be held in the MAP building located at 218 West Saratoga Street, just within the Bromo Arts District. OOO is a highly celebrated exhibition-event, and a ‘one-night-only’ opportunity for patrons and collectors to acquire contemporary art at unbelievably low silent auction prices.

This year’s theme for OOO is Barbarella: Queen of the Galaxy, based on the 1968 science fiction film. Attendees of the event can expect light fare, open bar, DJ Mikie Love and drag queen Onyx D. Pearl on theme. Highwire Improv will be in the basement for the after party!

Come dressed to impress and join the celebration in support of local & regional artists. Tickets to Out of Order are $45 presale and $50 at the door. Tickets include light tastings and an open bar. All tickets also include free entry to KIDOOO, MAP's accompanying youth-driven OOO exhibition to be held on the 5th  floor of the MAP building the very same evening. Maryland Art Place (MAP) is excited to announce, "Best in Show," an exhibition celebrating Maryland's rich equestrian culture through the lens of contemporary art, made in partnership with the Preakness Festival 150 and Sport Corp., Maryland. The Opening Reception will take place on Thursday, May 15 and will coincide with the annual Bromo District Art Walk, which attracts thousands of visitors, maximizing the exhibition's impact and visibility.
